I'm just curious of other's opinons on it, so tell me what you think about it. I may self am a femenist. I'm really into riot grrl music and other riot grrl stuff. I mean I don't see why women should be getting paid less then men or have to work twice as hard to get the same job as a man. Also I don't like how alot of guys treat girls like they're just a peice of ass, they have no respect for women at all. It's disgusting. Well whatever that's just a bit of how I feel.

thats a tough subject, cause some women flaunt their sexuality, and some respectable people like yourself, think the way most should. itll be tough to find the happy medium.

i can tell what a staunch feminist you are because of how you spell the word feminism.
all kidding aside... how could anyone not agree that women are still not treated fairly in terms of equal pay and they are certainly under-represented politically. it amazes me that over half of the populace is female, yet there has never been a female president or even vice-president.
but yeah. i thought the riot grrrl movement was dead and buried. i did a bikini kill/team dresch show back in like '95 ish... i'm sure some people liked it. those bands never did too much for me. although i can appriciate what they were trying to achieve.
even though kathleen hannah was working as a stripper and that seemed to undermine the integrity of the movement to me.
i'll stop before i go off on another tangent.

Yeah I think it may be dead and buried but I've just found out about it not to long ago and I like it alot... I'm gonna try and start up a little something in my area. And I'm in a band, I write most the songs and allready some of our lyrics are feminist so yeah, I dunno maybe some how I with help of others can bring riot grrrl back into the swing of everything. I dunno, I guess I can try.

it's a decent goal to have. I would also suggest seeing what you can find out about the chicks up front posse, they're a lot more relevant to straight edge than the riot grrrls were.

now that is a name i have not heard in many many years.
i can remember sweating one of those girls at the first more than music fest in dayton.(by the way, did you attend?) what was her name...she did a zine. not positive kim. one of the girls from dc.
now the chicks up front posse is something i thought died long ago.
the irony isn't lost on me that i'm talking about sweating a girl on a feminism thread.

I was too young back then for it. my parents were cool about some things, fest goings weren't one of them. The really sad part is I can't remember any of their names. Like I'm drawing a complete blank, of course it doesn't help that this was damn near 10 years ago.
it's died and come back a couple of times. Usually different girls. I know there was a group of girls up in boston and philly that were doing similar things.

yeah... i can't think of this girls name. and it completely doesn't matter. i just thought you might know what became of her, being a dc guy and all.
it must have been murder to be too young to go to some shows that you knew were going on. that first dayton fest was like a life changing experience...in march it will have been 11 years gone. crazy.

it was, but at the same time, I got to see a fuckload of amazing bands locally that I probably wouldn't have gotten a chance to otherwise. This is what I get for being in high school and not college.

Hey thanks I'll check into it. Today I took my chances with my school, Last night I wrote up a feminist flyer, and today I posted it in the halls at my shcool. Though on my way to the cafiteria later on I saw that one of them had been taken down. I was sad at first then thought about and realised somebody had to read it to want to take it down, or they may have taken it so they could read it and get the websites off it. Well I dunno, today's really my first try with it, so I'll see what happens tommarow.

How is it not "respectable"? Who are you to put up such jugements? And do you know what? I think it's a great thing your trying to do, I've seen far too many people girls included just hang up and say that it just isn't relvant any more, which is utter bullshit.
Alot of my art work is centered around feminism I guess, and I have a few projects on the go of my own. I'm not much of a musician, most of my work is from a visual art stand point. I'd be interested in any projects or just to chat if you ever fancy it.

Yeah that would be great to chat sometime. Visual art is awsome just I'm not so skilled in that area.
People in my city just seem to be dead about all of it. They don't seem to care, I wanna make a zine or something but 1) I don't have enough people to write stuff up and 2) I don't have money to make copies 3) I doubt anyone would even pick it up.

which is why the internet is amazing since you can influence far more people than you're geographically linked to.
also since you're in fairborn, you're close enough to yellow spring, where you will find plenty of feminists.

Well if you were ever serious about starting a zine I'd be more than up for helping out.
There are alsorts of ways to get somthing like that started and out. As for getting people to pick stuff up it's not that hard, you just need a decent network. I remember one zine, (though I can't remember what it was called), some one put it together made from photo copies, and put out in it for people to make a few copies and drop it off where ever themselves, it went round a long way in the end, I found that pretty inspiering.
A magazine I find quite interesting it's just called Bitch, it's basicly a feminist take on pop culture, I've read some really interesting articles in it if you ever come across a copy.
My AIM is xevil vivx if you ever catch me online, i'll probably be on alot more next week when I get back from the UK.

feminisim -great word. to be literal, the only difference between men and woman, is that men have penis'(what exactly IS the plural for penis? penises doesnt look right. it looks like pansy...hahaha quite hilarious i must say) and women have breasts and vaginas. BUT recent studys have shown there is a chemical difference in the brain that boys tend to have better spacial skills and girls have better social skills, which i think i remember to be as the only major difference, but of course there are always exceptions to the rule. Women can be better at anything if they work at it, Men can be better. im a feminist, yes i am but i have to say i disagree with feminists that say women are better than men because then your opressing men and theyll be masculinists or something.
random fact: the national average is that women are paid 76 cents to a mans dollar.
and the guy who said that were only here to get dick and show you our "tits", first of all the more respectful term would be breasts, or maybe even boobs, but seriously, you are the rudest most degrading person i have ever SEEN in my entire life and you need to grow up.

well see, god is a man not a woman. so if god is a man- wouldn't he want to be the better of the two?
so that means men must be better. maybe 24% better.
the bible proves it. right? i mean the bible couldn't be wrong, could it?

I'm not saying most porn is feminism friendly, far from it. But I am saying that pornography can be at peace with feminism. There are a few producers of feminist porn etc. We have a great deal of history, tradition and at least in the UK and some other countries laws to compeat against, but pornography isn't nessisarily against feminist principals. To say so is to say that sex and seuality is against feminist principals.
