my mom wants me to stop being vegan because I have lost 30 pounds in 4 months and I have a really big deficency health wise and my doctor says I am unhealthy. I just don't like to eat alot. I don't know why. therefore I have to eat cheese, dairy and such...which makes me angry... I refuse to eat meat again though. my parents are buying a shit load of peanut butter and other protein things.
sorry that just made me sad

that sucks.
why do you think veganism caused you to be unhealthy?
was it the amount of food you ate? or not eating the right types of foods?
man it's really fucked up. it's your life, your body, you can do whatever you vûwant with it...
i'm not vegan or vegetarian, but i only eat meat once or twice a week. and my father always asks: why don't you eat meat? if i'm eating a cheese sandwich or something. this usually ends up as a quarell, cos i don't take that shit.
i hate being told what to do. but what can he do? force me to eat more meat cos he thinks so?
sorry this post has nothing to do with being vegan

that sucks! parents can be funny! my guess is that they are just worried about you but you ought to try explaining veganism to them and get shopping for all the right foods!
cheers

i dont think not being vegan will nessisarily make you healthier. however 30 lbs is a lot of wieght to lose so fast for one so young and i think the fact that your doctor says you are deficient in certain things is a very valid concern. you do have to be very well organized to maintain a healthy vegan or even vegitarian lifestyle. you should be taking supplements and making sure you are eating at least 3 times a day. also the fact that you are young and still developing does make this a possibly serious situation. i , as a parent, can understand your own parents concern and while it seems like a fucked thing to do, they are probably only following your doctors advice, which at this point should be strongly concidered. there are many very healthy strong vegans out there but as i said you have to work hard at it and it doesnt sound like you did.

I suggest you stay vegan, but research it and realize that it is a lifestyle change. To be healthy you must eat healthy. There's a lot of info available, but as somebody else pointed out, that's a lot of weight in a short amount of time. You definately aren't doing it educated.

I am 6.1, 129 pounds
I am 5'11" and 115 lbs. Not unhealthy, underweight by today's standards maybe, but not unhealthy.... But yes, you should definately put some time into research vitamin and mineral needs and vegan nutrition in general...

That really is unhealthy. I'm 6'1" and about 161lbs and that is just about a healthy weight. I'm aiming at putting on about another 7lbs to secure a healthy weight.

those ratios don't matter as much as you guys make it out to be, you also have to calculate BMI.... but, no I'm not anorexic, I've been this weight for 3 years now, haven't gained or lost a pound since going vegan.... I am very fit. I pay a lot of attention to my nutrition, physical, and mental standings.

I'd be amazed if any dr would say you were a healthy weight at 5'11" and 115.

no doctors have told me I'm unhealthy.... they all said yeah you're a little skinny, but nothing to worry about in any way....
Whatever man. This message board isn't about me. I feel good, my body feels good. That's it.
