its bollocks, i was vegan for 3 years and never said that or thought that, i know the regular vegans here don't think that and its usually something said by someone who heard it somewhere and hasn't really put to much thought or research into it, like the kids who nowadays call themselves hardline.

That's crap! Veganism or vegetarianism have got nothing to do with sXe. Sure some straightedge kids go vegan and there are some vegan sXe bands but there are also some sXe kids that are krishnas, it doesn't mean you have to be a krishna to be sXe.

well that's what i thought as i could find no mention of veganism in lyrics from the bands whom i consider the founders of sxe; teen idels, minor threat, s.o.a., youth brigade w/ nathan, and G.I.
It seems however that the vegan=sxe idea thing might be more prolific here in the states ( i see you both are from uk) .
twice this holiday weekend (usa, labor day) while attending the classic labor day bar-b-que at a friends house i was kinda called out as Not sxe for Not being Vegan. My friend makes 3 kinds of chili , vegitarian, traditional meat, and cincinnati style w/ cinnamon and chocolate, i was eating the vegitarian anyway but was bringing my wife a bowl of the meaty stuff along with a hot dog , these vegans started talking shit cause i was wearing my coca cola styled "enjoy Straight Edge you can't beat the feeling" Tee , albeit these vegans are Not sxe themselves but seem to think they Know what its all about saying shit like "...well i dated a sxer and she was vegan and all the sxers i've ever known ...blah blah.." and giving me this cock eyed look and smirking to themselves and shit. i kinda dismissed them imediately and told them i didn't think not eating meat had anything to do with the original concept of a sxe life , but it kinda got me pissed, (maybe more so because one was also talking about her new girlfriend who is all into leather sex and saying things like "when she's fucking me all i smell is leather"....with my wife and my 5 month old baby girl 1 foot away), i don't give a fuck what other people think, but i did want to check up on this whole thing with you guys cause you all seem rather committed and intelligent and informed as to the origins and manifestations of the Edge. So with both your comments and Dusty's earlier one i think i'm cool with this whole thing now. Thanks

well, i think the whole vegan thing on a scale might be more prolific in england, and we also get plenty of uninformed people who think they know what straightedge is - idiocy is a world wide thing.

I'm vegan edge, but you don't have to be one to be the other... they are two different things.

That's what vegan edge is, it's not a separate movement... it's just a quick way of saying I am vegan and I am edge... you guys seem to argue about the smallest things here.

by combining them you are creating a link. just if I said I was meat edge or audi edge or something else. you're combining the 2 ideas and giving them a link.

its a misconception in my area what exactly straight edge is anyways, but a lot of people think you have to be vegitarian to be edge. none of which is true tho.

yeah and thank god ! it's hard enough to describe edge to friends and family without telling them about all the loosely associated trends within like not eating meat or not having sex ... i mean fuck, they already think sxe is some kind of cult as it is.

At the same time it's good that people are using a lable other thand Straight edge to describe things.

It's like all the dumb goth kids that call themself Straight edge, when they clearly aren't, they are just co-opting a lable that means nothing to them.

If some one said they were vegan edge, I 'd assume they were edge and they were vegan, and that that the vegan thing was an extra factor outside of sxe.

I also think people should be more imaginative, not just sticking "edge" on the end of everthing, or it'll end up like CSI

that's exactly what everybody else I know gets out of vegan edge...
