calling "emo" a culture is hilarious in itself.

I believe that Emo is as much a culture as Straightedge is a culture.
They are both subcultures of a music genre.

not really, what people call emo and "scene" kids aren't really based on anything, and the music that actually is emo, isn't listened to by people who are "emo"

If a big group of people believe the same thing,
act the same way, wear the same clothing style, listen to the same music.
(let it be its not the emo music that others give the name, just the SAME music)
Then what stops them from being a subculture or even a culture.
This however is my view on what makes a culture.
    Stop at nothing,

in the general sense it is, but in specific when talking about things like goth, punk, skinheads, straight edge, etc it doesn't make sense to compare, because it's a fashion and not a subculture. The bands that the kids listen to don't call themselves emo bands. The only thing calling themselves emo are the kids, which are distinctly different to the kids who listen to actual emo music and call themselves emo.

That part makes totally no sense.
But a music genre that excists as long as punk does deserve to be called a culture.
Anyway, it all depends on your own point of fiew.

it does, there are 2 things that exist in parallel. there is the actual emo subculture, which isn't what you're talking about, and the fashion emo, that you are. They share a name, but they're not the same. If a bunch of kids starting shaving their heads and calling themselves skinheads, it wouldn't make them a culture.

it's not because the genre exists for as long as punk, that it's a culture. there's nothing to believe in, in emo... (or is there ? tell me plz)
it's the biggest fucking bullshit i've ever heard, those emo kids calling there style a culture; like dusty said, it's a fashion, not a culture.

btw, are you going to the Groezrock festival ?
I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

Seriously, I'm not the most tolerant person in the world, but you're all doing nothing but propagating this "angsty" bullshit. Emo's a fucking genre, not a label.
Yeah i listen to alot of different genres of music and emo is one of them, and to be honest i dont want to kill myself at all lol

I agree with the point of not allowing people to come on the board and speak about hurting themselves or someone else. It makes me so angry when i hear about kids being egged on to do stupid things on online msg boards.
Makes me wonder why someone would want to broadcast themselves like that! if they are feeling they want to die, why come online and tell everyone first! unless they dont really want to and want someone to talk them out of it. Spose alot of kids dont have many friends outside the online community.

I dont know i kinda went off a little there in my own thoughts, guess we'll never know

Emo (music) is not ALL about killing yourself!
It is a way of dealing with your feelings to many people.
I hardly doubt that every person who listens emo music kills itself,
goes the other way too, people who listen other music DO kill themselves aswell.

You cant take a music style and say 'They kill themselves'
you can however say you think they are pathetic, thats an opinion and not a fact.

Is the "it" here referring to the individual people or the music? I'm confused.

    emo is short for emotional.
therefore pretty much all music is 'emo' as pretty much all music expresses and/or creates some kind of emotion.
