The question in the other thread made me remember an issue I wanted to bring up on the board here. So...

What do you all think of Boca, Nabisco, and General Foods/Post being owned by Kraft, which is owned by Philip Morris/Altria? (http://www.altria.com/en/cms/About_Altria/At_A_Glance/Our_History/default.aspx?src=search&q=kraft) Many of my friends avoid any products produced by Kraft, which includes the meat alternatives. I understand the concept of "hitting them where it hurts" by boycotting these products, it just makes things a little more difficult by eliminating a lot of convience foods.

Boca burgers are gross/over-processed anyway so there is more incentive to avoid them.

Agreed. I've been moving away from processed foods as much as possible. My shopping list consists of fresh and frozen produce, grains, maple syrup, almond milk, beans/lentils, nuts, canned tomatoes, and baking supplies as needed. Now if Hubby goes shopping, he always picks up those chik patties from Boca. :/

While it's true that processed mock meats aren't the absolute ideal veg*n diet, they can be a powerful tool for weaning yourself off meat and advocating a veg*n diet for meat eaters.

Here's a great article about it:

understood, but vegetable based diets should be just that, vegetable based. Perhaps it is persuasive to offer things that taste like meat "without the cruelty involved" (though this fact is in itself debatable when it comes to highly-processed and soy-based foods) but it does not really help build the knowledge of a working and beneficial vegan diet.
