Good American/Hollywood old movies

I never really saw any and I kind of got my mind fixed on the idea of rectifying the situation. So, I thought I'd ask you guys what are your favorite American/Hollywood old movies and perhaps you could recommend some to watch.

I'm into comedy, romance, drama, family, fantasy, action, thriller, sci-fi, mystery movies... almost anything there is out there except horror movies. I strongly dislike horror movies or anything portraying sick violence and murder or torturing etc. etc.

Right now I'm downloading these movies:

Casablanca (1942)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) (ok it's a UK movie but it seems like it would be a real good fun to watch it anywa)
It's A Wonderful Life (1946)

The movies descriptions at IMDB seemed intriguing and promising so I'm starting with these in the order listed.

I've watched Casablanca already and it was really good. I'm going to watch Dr. Strangelove right now and before I start I'll make a herbal tea and get me some pancakes for better experience.

Unfortunately, there are no cinemas in the area that show movies in English. Not only old but any. One of the reasons why I ignore cinemas.

My favorite old Hollywood movies are usually musicals like "Flower Drum Song" (1961), "White Christmas" (1954), "Doctor Dolittle" (1967), "The Wizard of Oz" (1939), "Funny Face" (1957), "Easter Parade" (1948);
then there's the classics like "Citizen Kane" (1941), "Gone with the Wind" (1939), "Rebecca" (1940), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961);
also stuff like "Shop Around the Corner" (1940), "The Great Dictator" (1940), "Our Town" (1940);
and then you can get into the teen stuff like "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955), "Gidget" (1959), "Beach Party" (1963);
or sci-fi Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956), Teenagers from Outer Space (1959)
on top of that there's the big stars to watch. I tell ya I cry every time I watch "Heidi" (1937) with Shirley Temple guaranteed. Personally though, when I think old Hollywood, the Golden Era, I think musicals every time, well that and the old studio system of course.

Tis the season for It's a Wonderful Life.

It's a wonderful movie. It's kinda cute, warm, it made me smile a lot, even laugh and cry :] It's just sooo good.

I just finished watching Picture of Dorian Gray (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0037988/)(1945) again this week, I loved that one.

Arsenic and Old Lace (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036613/), and the Ghost and Mrs Muir (http://http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=ghost+of+mrs+muir)are 2 of my families favorites both from the 40's again.

I love old movies too! I've been hooked on TCM for the last few weeks now.

I've been wondering what it would be like to experience that movie for the first time. I think I just take for granted the message behind that film because it's always on this time of year.

This is my dad's all time favorite movie, that there are big chunks of it that I can say by heart. That being said, I probably haven't watched it in 10 years, so watching it the other night was really awesome. Things I may not have understood back then I did this time around.
