I love Halloween. Hubby and I are pretty creative when it comes to our costumes. We have a friend whose parents throw a great carnival/party at their ranch every year and have great prizes. We have won best costume for the last couple of years.

Carla your costumes are amazing!

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I'm hoping to have the day off, but chances are I will have to work some of it. I've had my place decorated for Halloween (interior only) since the end of August.

I love halloween. It is one of my favourite days of the year! But sadly I will be working the night shift this year, so I will not be able to celebrate it, which is absolutely heartbreaking.

I'm sad for you. Obviously you should make the day extra obnoxious until you have to go to work. I think you should wear a costume to work.

That is so wrong on so many levels.

Thanks! We haven't gotten into decorating the exterior of our house yet, but hopefully that will change this year.

That is so wrong on so many levels.

well, you know there are other cultures. In my country, it would be full on disrespectful to run around and have fun on october the 31st for example. It's rememberence day, we go to the cemetery, light candles, and think of the ones that have passed. Totally different.
We have a carnival type of thing in spring called "farsang" when kids dress up in costumes, to "scare away the winter", but it doesn't seem as much fun as halloween, not too many people celebrate it, and also, there's no candy involved!

Really, there's other cultures? Wow I had no idea, I must be an idiotic American.

Pardon me for wanting others to enjoy a holiday that I do. I didn't mean to make you think I wanted this holiday to take over the world and be the same everywhere. I just think everyone should get to experience it.

that was not my point at all, and i hope you know I didn't mean to offend you, i can't see how you could have that impression based on my post...
I know we're missing out, but that's how it goes. i just felt the need to explain what it's like over here.

Farsang is great! There was a farsang party in my grammar school and everyone had cool costumes... My costume was: nike sneakers, jeans and a shirt. Everybody asked: "Hey man where is your costume?" I said: "I'm a spy... And spies like everyone else..." :)

It's kind of celebrated over here but it isn't a "holiday" like you guys have it.

My parents always said when they were little, people would go trick or treating on Guy Fawkes, not on Halloween at all. But over the years, it has changed and kids now dress up and go trick or treating on Halloween. I don't know of anyone decorating there house or anything like that so I guess it is much bigger over there.

5th of November is what I look forward to as I am a manly man GRRRR.

Yes.

It reminds me of some chatsessions i got a few years ago. i said everything without the smilies, and ppl would get the impression that i wasn't very kind to them. smilies are overrated ! and like here on the forum, i always try to read the messages as if they're meant friendly.

It just came off in a not so great way, but that's fine. Maybe I read it all wrong, but I replied how it came off to me. It's not a big deal or anything to be worried about!

Exactly man. I don't know why this is so but most people seem to interpret everything that is written without the excessive use of smileys as a seriously meant text. It seems as if people don't want to strain themselves with giving it an extra effort and try to figure out if what you're writing is really meant or not. But I guess you know what I'm talking about punk, right?!

Our friend's family throws a party every year the Saturday before Halloween. There are carnival games with prizes and lots of food. It's also a time for us to test out our costumes before the big night.

We were just intending for generic gangsters but were recognized as Bonnie and Clyde
