Okay so I made this thread 'cause I want to know HOW people see the Straight Edge way of life so :

1- No alcohol, No drugs, No tobacco
2- No alcohol, No drugs, No sex without love (tobacco is include in "No drugs" of course ;))
3- No alcohol, No drugs, No sex without love + vegan/veggie
4- Hardline

So let me know :) and if I asked this question it's because at the begining the SxE way of life was the first one so I want to know if most of the SxE (nowadays) live with the first or the second choice

Thanks :)

No alcohol, No drugs, No sex without love, AND NO TOBACCO

IF YOU SMOKE U'RE NOT EDGE
Youre just another druggie addicted to smokes

My standard includes smoking, alcohol, drugs, and no sex without love + 1.5 year relationship first.

I recently threw off caffeine. If I would've recognized it as a drug, I would've thrown it off before I was tainted by it. :[

Ok so for you, it's the first one ?

For myself I think SxE is No alcohol, No drugs, No tobacco , and after the question of sex is like this one about "being vegan" it's something you add

yes, but I've never understood the whole adding things on. There's a lot of things that I believe and follow that have nothing to do with me being straight edge.

Yeah I understand but when I say "add" I mean it's something else that you add to all your believe, for example I don't agree with people who say : " Be SxE is being vegan" or things like that , you're first SxE and after you're vegan, that the same for here first you're SxE and after you can be a BWSR or a GSWR

But like the name "Straight Edge" the sexual part "No sex without love" is taken from a song of Minor Threat (poor Ian by the way we put on his back all things that he won't want (I'm not sure my english was good here XD) as the Straight Edge way of life and this thing about sex)

yeah but adding things on and associating them with straight edge is where that mentality comes from. What is a BWSR or a GSWR?

Yeah, out of step said a lot of things though. It also said that he thought playing golf was dumb too and that it wasn't a set of rules. That single song and maybe a handful of others throughout the last 28 years mention sex in any kind of context but it's just not reflected in the culture as a whole.

I'm not trying to assert that any part of sex is incorporated into sXe, I'm just trying to say that my views on sex go hand-in-hand with me being straight-edge.

how can they go hand in hand when the one has nothing to do with the other? What other views go hand in hand with it then?

BWSR : Boys With Self Respect and GSWR : Girls With Self Respect ;)

Btw, I think having sex is something we do (and must do, for myself) with someone who love and who love us, not something we do for do something in our day because we had a boring day ...

no drugs and a sense of the history of what you are claiming.

Because it all falls under my personal view of being "morally correct."

By that idea i suppose i should put being against domestic violence, homophobia, racism, sexism, bullying, scam artists and confidence tricksters etc. all under the banner of straightedge? Straightedge is not a pseudonym for "morally correct" though so i shant just put all my moralistic views under that banner.

Maybe I was a little shifty about my explanation. I am NOT calling my way of life in its entirity "straight-edge." I'm saying that straight-edge is a piece of my moral values, one I held along with all the others. Let's say I think obeying curfew is an important part of being morally correct (I don't). That doesn't mean I'm saying, "Anyone not home by 11 isn't sXe."

Note: This is why I put "my standard" rather than directly calling my morals "straight-edge."

Note 2: I apologize, I know my whole format for my point was sloppy.

Yeah but its your standard for your morals in life as a whole, its not definitive of straightedge. There really is no reason for any of your other values to come under straightedge at all, calling it your standard doesn't really differentiate from saying its what you believe straightedge to be, even if it just for you. The question really is why do you consider the sex + 1.5 year relationship thing to be straightedge? Bearing in mind the reasoning you decide it is part of it why should the curfew or any of the things i mentioned not be also considered straightedge?

For me it's:

No drugs (including prescription meds, especially painkillers and/or anti depressants. I would take medicine if my life really depended on it but that's about it.)

Alcohol and Tobacco are also drugs. And I've watched people destroy themselves with both. It doesn't ever make sense to me to hear people say "drugs and alcohol" as if those are not the same thing. It's in a different package and big corporations can legally sell it to you. Big fucking whoop.

No douchebag sex. I define douchebag sex to be predatory behavior and behavior which may potentially be dishonest and lead to hut or confusion. I'm not 100% against casual adult sex encounters as long as it's honest and there's no bullshit pretense. I do believe very strongly in protection because what's the use of protecting your body from harmful drugs if you're going to get an STD?

Can you bank virginity? As in if you first have sex at 16 you have to have sex 16 times before you have lost your virginity? If you go 2 years without can you have sex and have a spare virginity just in case?

I hadn't thought about it like that, I think that is a great idea! That is now how I am going to interpret virginity from now on!

btw : why we are virgin only ONE TIME ? I don't realy know how can I write that hummm

You see, I think we're virgin each time we get a new girlfriend or boyfriend, 'cause be virgin it's before your first time right ? so ! you're virgin again before the first time with your new boy/girl friend , I don't know if I'm clear :s
