Ok now I know im going to get some hate for this...
but before I get called a fruitbooter, gay blader, roller fag, just hear me out.
I do rollerblading as a sport. I love to do it, I skate every day, ect...
I just think it is interesting that most of the edge people I know skateboard and they hate rollerblading.
Well my friends that blade, and me have total respect for boarding. so we have no hate inbetween the two sports, but we still get alot of shit from people.
anyways, does any one on here skate? (rollerblade)

also if you really want to open up your mind watch a few of these. I think you will have a whole new respect for the sport I enjoy.

I know this is quite a bit of stuff to watch but I want to show some variety. huge gaps, style, tech trick, and just what rolling is about.
I dont really expect anyone to watch all of them, but just to check them out. rolling along with edge keeps me healthy, and its what I enjoy :)

The reason a lot of skaters first started to dislike rollerblading was down to how when it first came about it really was trying to jump on the bandwagon of skateboarding. Skateboarding has been so inovative and it really is unique in what it does, it really carved its own way and essentially rollerblading was not so inovative and was kind of biting skateboardings style. Thats the facts and the intitial reasoning. Unfortunately a lot of people just ran with hating rollerblading but not really grasping why, hence the stupid names etc.

I am actually insulted that you think people on here would call you the names you mentioned, i personally have been very passionate about skateboarding in my life and it has been something that has been with me for so long. I remember clearly rollerblading coming about and how it played out, i remember the original rollerbladers in my town, i am friendly with most of them still to this day. I give them a lot of credit for sticking with rollerblading even when it was considered the sucky thing to be doing. I never gave them any grief, we had some fun discussions about things which did result in some rollerblade dissing but it helped them see exactly what the issue was.

We have a large group of hardcore skaters in my area but we had no qualms about rollerbladers really as they were all about making rollerblading unique and giving it its own identity, which nowadays it has although still very similar to skateboarding. I love those 6 or 7 guys and the 1 girl that made a tight group of rollerbladers in my town, we even took a couple of them on holiday to barcelona with us. And one married a extremely passionate skateboarders sister! I don't think we are unique in this, i think when you find the people that really are down for skating for fun and all the right reasons the annimosity and hatefulness just isn't there in the way it is with the types who are buying into an image they have been sold. It was always just people who were down for skating, those rollerblders were down for that and so we got on just fine. Often we would session the same spot and all get what we wanted out of it, the insults and just weren't relative to how things were. Sure we would still rib each other but it was different, a lot different.

I just wanted to write that to give you the perspective from my findings over the years, rollerblading has grown and shrank. Its been it the position skateboarding has been where it was super popular and then really not popular but now it has been around for ages the insults that are left seem to have no real thought or reason behind them other than people like to be negative about things. Skateboarding has had some strong cultural ties with music like hardcore over the years and i'm really not sure how well that kind of crossover would work with rollerblading...it has got some years on it now so i guess time will tell. Bottom line is that those who are down for skating will have the least predjudice in this matter, those who do are really not as clued up on things as they like to think.

In high school a friend of mine did a lot of rollerblading, and he taught me. It was a lot of fun! The last week of high school a bunch of us wore our skates before school started and had a seniors race down a couple of hallways. Good memories!
