not really, if you listen to cro-mags it basically sounds like old slayer, the metal influence was always there but metal back then isn't what metal is today, Guns'N'Roses were considered metal, but now a band like the Black Halos who sound exactly like G'N'R are considered punk, just remember, music changes, hardcore is always going to be a mix of punk and metal, but punk and metal have both changed over the last little while as has hardcore

the cro mags weren't an early hardcore band. the metal influence was always there? how? is there metal in the kids will have their say? or wolfpack? or the early bad brains records? you're talking about things that came about in the late 80s, years after hardcore started.
the simple fact of history is this, hardcore didn't come from metal.
it might have been influenced by it later, but it didn't come from it.

personally , for me i can say that i like gcf cause they differ from all the hardline-sxe-bands. I think if you're straight you don't have to take everything too serious. For example a lot of sxe-kids i know, from the i-net, complain bout skins with beers in the pit ! who cares ? we're one scene! or they say : " if you brake your edge - i'll beat you up" this sucks ! i think gcf is has some good opinions and they before they speak - that's why i like the band.

Another thing is that most people think that the sxe-scene only includes hardliner - so they're surprised when they hear gcf - and so they like it.
