Well I am not sure whether or not there has been a thread in the past dedicated to tattoo pictures, so I have decided to start one! If you have any ink I think it would be cool to see it! I'll start it off.

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb170/mouseman004/IMG000009.jpg

Those are my family crests tattooed on my arms. Harris is my Mom's side of the family and Draper is my Dad's. My dad actually has the Draper one on his arm as well, we got them together. Sorry about the bad quality. I don't have a digital camera so I had to attempt to take a picture of both of my arms with my webcam.

http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb170/mouseman004/Picture24.jpg

This one is pretty much my pride and joy. And is pretty self explanatory.

Hopefully some of you guys post some of your own pictures.

...and I dedicated the sparrows to my family 'cuz it also is the bird that no matter how far they travel, how hard it gets or how long it takes, they'll find their way back home and on some african tribes if there was a family who owned a sparrow it meant that it was a good family and I might not be rich, but everything I am I owe it to my family

Yeah it was pretty awesome when he agreed to get it. He was going through some tough times and I was already planning on getting it so I asked him if he would be interested in getting the same one. I figured he would say no but he would be honoured by the offer and it would make him feel better about things, but he definately agreed and it's awesome.

On the shin! Did it hurt getting that tattoo Ed?

Hooray for asking the dumbest tattoo related question!!

For the record tattoos cause pain, its pretty obvious really yet everyone asks anyway, the answer is of course yes it hurts, but how much? There are lots of things that contribute to just how much of that pain effects you, mainly psychological. Because you are prepared and because its ongoing you can pretty much figure out ways to switch of to most of the pain, which is quite the opposite from stubbing your toe (although if you are quick to focus you can make that hurt a lot less too). The tattoo gun vibrated against my shin a lot which is odd and that probably was the worst thing about over the shin, outlining over my calf muscle caused a sharper pain to be honest.

yeah, of course it hurts.
I can't compare getting tattooed, because i only have the black flag bars on my right kneecap, so i don't know if it was more painful than other places yet.
getting it done was painful at some points, and we only took a 10 minute break so my artist could have a smoke. it took 4 hours. basically, your body get's used to the pain, and creates endorphin because of the constant pain. it's really like a constant beesting, i woudl compare it to that. i got used to it pretty well.
the tattoo gun vibrating on the kneecap was bad at times though. a funny thing, when the tattoo gun hit that spot, my reflexes worked, and my leg bounced up. (I'll link from home, because myspace is blocked here)

Did it hurt getting that tattoo Ed?

Pain is relative to the person experiencing it, so to answer how bad something hurts is one of the hardest questions I've ever had to answer.
I personally love the process of getting tattooed. Using your mind to push the pain completely out during a long session is one of the best examples of mind over matter that I'v been able to personally experience.

I like that shin piece!

Thanx, I even made my mom cry when I'd show it to her and explain to her what it means, truth is: I don't know if it was because she was disappointed about the fact of me getting tattooed or because of it's meaning, yes, looks like she used to think that tattoo's are for vandals and irresponsible ones like a lot of closed mind people... Yeah, I don't have that king of money.

I don't think I ever really liked what I have. The one on my foot needs to be reworked big time, it's a mess. I had the stars on my wrists covered up with something else, but it still isn't what I want. The one on my back is a total regret, but at least I don't have to see it. I totally got all of my tattoos spur of the moment and didn't take time to think about them. I guess that's my own fault though.

about three or four years ago, some kids wanted to get in the airforce or some militar shit where you cant have tattoos to get in (at least here). well, they didnt have the money to get laser surgery and they met a guy who told 'em "hey i know how you can get rid of it!" and they ended up with pieces of their legs cut off.

My favourite movie is 'Nightmare Before Christmas' so I absolutely love the Jack and Sally tattoo! I want a half sleeve done with all the characters on it, but can't at the moment. My tattoo is on my back and my parent's don't know about it so I don't think I can get someone to take a photo of it, but it's a yin-yang dragon design.

I didn't even know he had an Ambigram tattoo. I don't know if it's the same, but from a quick Google Search it seems that he has "Life/Death" not Love/Hate. But yes it is similar.

I had actually drawn up a little Love/Hate ambigram idea that I thought looked really cool back in my sophomore year of high school and always loved it from the day I sketched it. So 4 years later (when I was 19) I took it to an artist and he cleaned my sketch up a little bit and now I have it on me for good :-). I love the fading of the text too.

I like the tombstone scene, it looks really good. The colors really make it pop.

Thanks, my artist actually did that whole thing freehand, he's amazing! He just sat me down and started making a mess on my arm with blue and red pens, 3 hours later I had the outline done, and a second session of 2 more hours we were all set!

That is awesome, I am pretty much doing the same with my artist on Wednesday with my half sleeve. I walked in last week, told him basically what I wanted, and pretty much put the whole thing in his hands.

I didn't even know he had an Ambigram tattoo. I don't know if it's the same, but from a quick Google Search it seems that he has "Life/Death" not Love/Hate. But yes it is similar.

Yeah! Economy sucks! I hate it. And I've been an addict even before I got any. haha. Three tats within two days of turning 18. Ridiculous. But awesome! And my next two will be pretty big pieces on my back. Can't wait!

Found a design on line I liked... drew it out... replaced the normal X with crossed wrenches (as I am a car nut) annnnd need to find something else to put on there to close up the bottom.... I got time to think about it. May end up just scetching in some more vines and leaves and crap down on the bottom if I cant think of anything else.

I want a tattoo that looks like I scribbled on myself with a marker
I want a laser etching of my name and birthday on my bones so if any archaeologist ever discovers my skeleton many years from now, they will know my name

Tattoos are such a visual thing, I wish there was like a musical tattoo that played music or some euphoric sound so that I could always here it and it could always bring me joy.

those are all terrible ideas
Much respect for the great colorful ninja turtles tattoo.
I actually don't like tattoos that much because I would freak out if I looked at my skin and it wasn't skin colored anymore, but that is a work of art.

I've been trying to find someone to do my first tat and it's been a struggle, which I think is a bad sign. I was talking to this artist and finally set up an appointment. I get there and he's working on a walk-in client and tells me that someone else can help me. More stunned than anything, I talk to this other guy, who's talented but doesn't have a lot of experience. *backing out of shop quickly*

I was then referred by a friend to another artist. This lady takes three weeks to get back to me with a sketch--and it was horrible. *sigh* It shouldn't be this hard, right?

No, sounds like you have a lot of jokers in your area, or at least they don't seem very professional. It helps when you know a tattooer because they always can refer you to someone cool and usually someone that is reliable.

Definitely do your homework - if you see someone on the street and you like their tattoo ask where they got it and go to that shop and look at the artists books and talk to them. That's the route I would take.

i would stay away from it not because of they are job stoppers but because most people i know who have any kind of "posi" tattoo become pretty negative at some point in the very near future. Also, hand tattoos are generally recommended if you already have a good deal of tattoo coverage elsewhere.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing since I moved here. Everyone I've checked out I either don't like their work, personality or they just have a lack of business sense. It seems like PHX is full of people just traveling through; an artist will be at a shop one week, then gone the next. Frustrating!

Thanks Linsee. Yeah money can be an issue. This girl is awesome and doesn't charge a pile of money, which made me realize that some of the other people I was talking to about the piece were either really slow and/or just trying to rip me off. I was quoted $100-150 an hour at 8-10 hours by two people. Their work is great, but it makes me wonder now....I spoke to some of my tattooist friends about the piece and they said this artist I'm going to see is good and in the right price range ($80 per hour for 5-6 hours).

okay, here it is...

I originally wanted my band's cover art (done by Rodrigo) with a bit of modification, and personalization, but when i showed it to my tattoo artist who's a close friend of mine, he loved the idea behind it so much he insisted to do it in his own style. I wanted bright colours, exaggerated outlines and a few other additions. it came out great and i went with it. it took around 24 hours to get it done.

Okay tattooed brethern and sistren,

Have you noticed since you have gotten ink that people feel like they have permission to touch you? Is it just a female thing? I was at the gym with my friend, in the lockeroom CHANGING, and this woman came right up to me and grabbed my arm to get a closer look at my phoenix. It's one thing to have people stare, which is fine, but this is not the first time some stranger has touched me.

Not that I have tattoos, but since I have my dreadlocks a lot of strangers touched my hair. 'Hey can I touch 'em' en before I say yes or no they got em.
I had a friend that experiences that all the time. My girlfriend has an afro and she says that people do that to her all the time too.

This happens to me often and it gets mega annoying. I have a tattoo on my wrist that is often visible, and people at work will touch it. They also try to put their fingers inside my gauges when I wear hollow earlets.

I dont so much get that from strangers or randoms, but I do get that alot with people that I know. They will randomly start touching the tattoos, as if checking to see that they won't rub off, or they will just randomly touch them while they are looking at them. It is sort of wierd. But I don't know how I would react if somebody from the street randomly touched my arms.

A lot of people poke the tattoo behind my ear when asking about it or after asking. It's really weird. And a lot of people will try to pull the back of my shirt down to read my straight edge tattoo on my neck. I'd rather not get strangled by strangers.

That's how my students found out about my tattoo. One of my students saw the outline when my shirt slipped down a bit in the back. So when it's my teenage students, I can understand that they get excited, but grown men and especially women get very hands-on when they check it out.

I guess psychology guys would tell something along the lines of people are being actually kids throughout most of their lives and they just develop a persona to fit into the grown-up world. People are curios by design, so people grabbing your tattooed body parts to examine them more closely and trying to verify if it's real or fake is quite understandable. I don't know how I would react, I don't have any tattoos, but I would probably became alert too if random people started touching me much.

I've never had anyone trying to touch my tattoo or ears, I would always just get comments and sometimes if I wear something short I get complete strangers finding it necessary to stop me in a crowd but no touching involved ever. Thats so odd, especially for linsee having strange fingers poking, although mine arent gauged enough to induce that behavior but I dont know how I would handle that if it was nor know why anyone would want to do such a thing. Creeps me out to think of it actually.

WELCOME TO HOLLAND

by
Emily Perl Kingsley.

c1987 by Emily Perl Kingsley. All rights reserved

I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel. It's like this......

When you're going to have a baby, it's like planning a fabulous vacation trip - to Italy. You buy a bunch of guide books and make your wonderful plans. The Coliseum. The Michelangelo David. The gondolas in Venice. You may learn some handy phrases in Italian. It's all very exciting.

After months of eager anticipation, the day finally arrives. You pack your bags and off you go. Several hours later, the plane lands. The stewardess comes in and says, "Welcome to Holland."

"Holland?!?" you say. "What do you mean Holland?? I signed up for Italy! I'm supposed to be in Italy. All my life I've dreamed of going to Italy."

But there's been a change in the flight plan. They've landed in Holland and there you must stay.

The important thing is that they haven't taken you to a horrible, disgusting, filthy place, full of pestilence, famine and disease. It's just a different place.

So you must go out and buy new guide books. And you must learn a whole new language. And you will meet a whole new group of people you would never have met.

It's just a different place. It's slower-paced than Italy, less flashy than Italy. But after you've been there for a while and you catch your breath, you look around.... and you begin to notice that Holland has windmills....and Holland has tulips. Holland even has Rembrandts.

But everyone you know is busy coming and going from Italy... and they're all bragging about what a wonderful time they had there. And for the rest of your life, you will say "Yes, that's where I was supposed to go. That's what I had planned."

And the pain of that will never, ever, ever, ever go away... because the loss of that dream is a very very significant loss.

But... if you spend your life mourning the fact that you didn't get to Italy, you may never be free to enjoy the very special, the very lovely things ... about Holland.

I decided I didn't want it to be too dark, more so bright. He's going to add a lot more purple.

We haven't drawn it out, but we've talked about it a lot. It's killing me though that we started at the top, because my favorite part of the tattoo is the angel at the bottom.

I plan on doing the inside eventually, I have a few other things I want to work on first.

I probably will wait til later this year to do the inside of my arm. I already started something on my foot, and I need to save up some money again. My artist wants to enter me in some color contests, I'm pretty excited.

Its about that time of year where I go get another tattoo. I tend to get a new one every summer, but I haven't really thought about it this year yet.

I've got some serious nerd love:

Done by Demian Thompson @ The Parlour in Eugene, Oregon! This is also a terrible webcam pic that does not do justice to either the super thick and clean lines or the vibrant color.

Thanks, man! I didn't really think about the leaves being a canada thing, I was just going along with the tree, haha. But I like that spin on it.
