just wondering what you guys like that isn't hardcore.

when i was young i didn't listen to anything but hardcore, so if that's the case with you, maybe no one will respond to this. maybe they won't anyway.

here's the stuff i like that isn't hard to the core:

built to spill
modest mouse
rocket from the crypt
wilco
coldplay (i can't help it, 'a rush of blood..' is amazing)
mojave 3
red house painters/mark kozelek
smiths/morrissey
the innocence mission
the pogues
the clancy brothers with tommy makem(irish folk)

anyway...

The non-hardcore stuff I listen to is quite varied. I can listen to pretty much anything but my favourite genres are Industrial, such as Throbbing Gristle and Skinny Puppy; Deathrock/Batcave, such as Alien Sex Fiend and Cinema Strange; and Goth, such as Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus.

I honestly listen to alsorts some times I'll just go off on a crappy indie mood then it's stuff like Urusai Yatsura and bell and sebastian (_ _) I like some Ska (it makes me happy) to be honest nearly anything that isn't dance or cock rock and hair metal it'll probably end up in my stereo at some point. I get weird moods I guess sometimes.

I seriously hope ska starts to make a comeback. The world needs a 4th wave.

as well as hardcore and (true)emo, i can listen to a lot of death metal like Between The Buried And Me, Throwdown(though you could argure them to be metalcore)

some newer, non hxc punk like anti flag,

as a drummer, i like listenning to some of jazz, drummers like
Steve Gadd, Vinnie Coleiouta, Dave Weckl. Buddy Rich will live forever.

But hardcore is what i like best.

the majority of what i listen to is non-hardcore. i listen to mostly indie rock (i prefer the artsy variety that makes me wanna shake my ass), indie pop, no wave, emo, some post-rock, post-everything blah blah blah too many genres blah blah blah yeah. i listen to whatever moves me physically or emotionally.

I listen to a lot of Sigur Ros and GY!BE.

recently I've been listening to a lot of industrial with Skinny Puppy and some Orgy and KMFDM.

I also enjoy synth pop or industrial goth like the Last Dance and Crux Shadows. then of course I ocasionally listen to regular goth with Sisters of Mercy and Saviour Machine.

then you got your swing and Jazz with all the greats and then the smaller groups also.
