the first step reminds me of being 17 years old... which is good. i can't wait to hear their LP.

blue monday is doing a record with bridge 9...so hopefully it'll be a good recording. i'm in discussions with the bass player to be a part of the riot vocals on the record! (but shit like this i get psyched for always falls through)

For Arizona, definitely Where Eagles Dare and North Side Kings

For Tucson (where I live), I dont mean to sound cocky, but I would say my band is the best in Tucson. We play in Phoenix sometimes and people come from Phoenix to see us in Tucson.

Aside from my band, there is one band called Tempers Flare that are pretty cool.

im an ex-orange county edger, best locals out there were throwdown, bleeding through, atreyu, vindictive conspiracy, and cease to be idle (name has schanged but i cant remember it). in LA theres wear the mark, theyre pretty bad ass.

out where im living now, butt-fucking middle of nowhere utah, weve got very few hardcore bands, but the list is as follows...

false conceptions (death metal/hardcore hybrid)
killstab (metalcore)
part 2 (somewhere between metalcore and screamo, think old poison the well)
ipso facto nocturnum (the only sXe band out here, i scream, my 2 disciples* play guitar and we do a very eclectic metalcore with no bass and no drums)

other than those bands we have a vast collection of emo and punk bands, but nothing really worth bragging about.

*when i first moved out here i was the only sXe in the whole county ive since converted somewhere around 6-7 people to the cause.

i'm talking to the first step about doing a show down here (in north carolina) after they finish recording. (wally from gorilla biscuits is producing their record!) there is a place called the brewery, which got outta having shows for awhile, but now a new guy bought it and he is somewhat receptive.

You'd be amazed at the dynamics of running a club and how the money side of it actually shakes out. I'm saying. $2 more for an all ages venue that will keep being an all ages venue is a lot better than one that doesn't do all ages show because most of its money comes from the bar, not the door.

Yeah, but thats the problem.

I dont like how they run it like a bar.

Queen City Underground ( a place we play at) Is straight BYOB and they do good, have good turnouts and a kick-ass place all around.

But your right, its there club, they can run it how they see fit.

Reguardless of if I agree with it.

I've known lots of people who have tried. one word of advice, save as much money as you can before you do it, you're going to need it. and make sure you get the people involved to sign contracts stating how much each person involves stake actually is.

My intenion was to just buy some recording crap ( start with like 3 grand worth)

Then just charge lump sums for little bands around here.

Then promote it and see how it goes.

Im honestly not expecting much to come out of it, but at least I'll have some good stuff to record my band with.

Then promote it and see how it goes.

Im honestly not expecting much to come out of it, but at least I'll have some good stuff to record my band with.

yeah, but then you have to factor in pressing costs if you do vinyl or cds, printing costs for cds and inlay's and record covers. promotional costs, website costs. merchant costs to sell be able to accept credit cards. most people I know that have done labels have always used existing recording studios. unless you want to open one of those too, which is even more insane money and involves shit like insurance and sound ordinances.

All that stuff is way ahead, I just mean crappy demos for amature local acts.

Then maybe it can expand. But If it doesnt its no big deal, I'll just go back to welding.

nah, just hoping to give you a realistic idea of what you'd be getting into. LIke I've always wanted to do a label, but the cost is the one thing stopping because it is so fucking expensive to get started.

that being said. the great thing about hardcore labels is that one never says dominant forever.

Maybe when my band gets straight and we get out on the road, we can hook up with someone else trying to make this work.

the best local band in our area, i think, is probably Habitual or Desperate for Air. 'DFA' sings punk rock and most the time it's poking fun at politics or government or something. Habitual is mostly boring crap but they're still really good.

Cherem played here about a month ago with aftermath of a train wreck and bring it down. They were all alright. A little too metalish for me. Bring it down sounded like terror. The guys from cherem and aftermath stayed at our apartment for a few days. Super nice guys.

Blodjinn - are you kidding me? seriously, I have seen them three times, listened to their cd's. the only reason why they got popular is because they "helped out the scene." it doesn't change the fact that their music is terrible.

not a current band though. if you included trial you'd have to include undertow and brotherhood. but you'd have to make sure you also disallowed botch, because they were shit.

Anything heavier than singing?

seems like the root of noisecore is almost sarcastic. Perhaps refering to the fact that there is distortion involved and thinking that it is noise instead of music. But who knows.
