i saw morrissey at the apollo theater in nyc. yes... that apollo theatre. it was fucking amazing. they even had vegan food for sale. the highlight of the night was the encore which was 'there is a light that never goes out'... my favorite smiths song of all time.
morrissey's new shirts are just plain shirts with morrissey written in cro-mags font. crucial. awesome times.

morrisey shares a time with robert smith for my most hated english men still alive.
like I cna understand why people like thim so much, but he always just came off as so smug and cocky. and the whole I don't have sex thing. i don't trust anyone that doesn't have a sex drive.

somehow i knew when i posted this that you would say something along the lines of what you did.
morrissey is one of those people that inspire either extreme devotion or extreme disgust in people. very few people are middle of the road with him. i love him though.
heading back up to nyc with the family in a few hours. should be fun.

I'm nothing if not predictable.
and yeah I would agree the people that like him and the smiths LOVE him. I once knew a girl that tried very very hard to look like him and succeeded. and then decided she wanted to be goth afterward and changed completely and went back to looking like a girl.
are you and the family going to hit up red bamboo?

yeah... since it's mother's day. we are heading up for some sightseeing and some vegan yummies. the only wrinkle in our plan is that it looks like a 50 percent chance of rain in the morning and afternoon. if it rains too hard we'll figure out some inside stuff to do. i've got my three meals planned out...and that's the important stuff.
other planned things:
toys r us times square: a 60 foot indoor ferris wheel and a 21 foot animatronic tyrannasaurus rex are too much for the three year old to pass up.
empire state building: pay our 11 bucks and go to the top...i've done it but they never have so they should like it.
maybe go down to WTC site: i doubt it though.
central park: if it doesn't rain.
i just wanna take lots of pictures of the kids in nyc.

I had heard that the morrisey shows sold out in like 30 mins so it's insane that you got tickets.

how can you like philly over nyc? philly's a shit hole. I mean. I don't like nyc either, but I'd choose manhattan over philly 10 times out of 10.

my wife on a ferris wheel:

me being a huge dork: (i tried to get grace to put on the x swatch and do this pose, but she freaked out and wouldn't do it)

anyway. sorry if anyone didn't care about seeing these.

if viv and I ever have kids, I can only hope they'd be as cute as your girls.
and seriously, the cb's picture is crucial. Was your wife supportive about it or did she roll her eyes and mock you for wanting to do it?
flame_still_burns

thanks for the kind words about the kids.
well...the plan with the cb's photo was to put the x swatch on grace and have her do a GO! point, which she will do on demand when hardcore is playing in the house. we got the watch on her and then she started screaming and saying that she didn't want her picture taken.
so i had her take that just so our walk all the way up bowery wasn't in vain. surprisingly she was pretty cool about it...i was totally expecting her to roll her eyes.
just out of curiosity...why don't you like new york?

yeah. if I did it, viv would probably mock me. but somethings just have to be done. Viv is also going to want gracie's backpack.
I don't like nyc because it's too big, too expensive, too many people. it's the same reason I don't really like london. I like nyc more than I like london but only because it's easier to find your way around because the street names name sense. I haven't been to ny since pre guiliani clean up, so I might change my opinion. I just can't stand feeling like cattle. at least in smaller cities I can choose if I want to ride public transport or not, but with the bigger ones, you don't have a choice but to get crammed into tiny spaces with 10000 of your closest strangers.
flame_still_burns
05-12-2004, 09:22 AM
i can understand that.
i don't think i'd like nyc nearly as much if it wasn't like vegan disneyland. seriously you can find shit there that you can't get anywhere else...the kids got softserve tofutti. each meal was planned like science... the sightseeing was just a distraction until we got hungry enough to eat again.
i'm still waiting for a long enough DC overnight...then i'm gonna email you and say 'come pick my ass up...we're going to eat!' hopefully sooner than later.

ebay has swatch x rated a lot of time, but expect to pay more than $200 for one.
revhq.com had knock offs don't know if they still do or not.

no, because it isn't a straight edge watch. it's just a watch with a big x on it that all the crucial kids have.

I think you hit that one right on the nose. Every day, at least one person (AT LEAST!) says "I like your watch", even though they dont know why I wear it.

i remember a few years back reading some page online about it being something to do with malcom X but it didn't sit with me, there was some other things too but i can't remember, aesthetics does seem the most logical and likely.

tell me when you put it up, i would like to bid for one, how much are you hoping to get for them roughly?
flame_still_burns
05-18-2004, 01:26 PM
i dunno really. one of them is kinda rough around the edges...so i don't expect it would go for more than the low 100 dollar range, but you never know. i have to look through my records and see what i have to get rid of before i see if i'm actually gonna throw the watches on too.

i'm interested in your house. is your neighborhood a family type place or is it kinda urban... i'm just wondering. i can't believe the amount of money a house costs in dc now... one of my best friends lives in arlington, fairly close to the dischord house. they are stuck, because their rent is somewhat controlled and they can't afford to move out because the rents would be like double what they are paying. anyway. good thing you bought when you did...you probably have lots of equity now.

it's not really urban at all. it's in a planned community from the late 70s early 80s so there are man made lakes, and woods and play grounds and pools and bike trails everywhere.
When I bought it I was bitter at paying $159,000 for it. That was in 99. It's now worth about twice that much. I also know that it'll retreat at some point. THere's no way normal people with normal paying jobs can afford small houses for $350+. Even if the situation that let me by my house again happened, i couldn't afford to live as close to the city as I do and in as nice of a house as I do. I was really really lucky.
